Captain America's Shiels is made from the strongest metal in the Marvel Universe, Vibranium, and through the tireless effort of scientists during the 2nd world war in order to make a metal stronger than Adamanitum, particularly those of Dr. MacLain who is credited for the creation of Vibranium and the shield it's self. It's said that it's shape was the result of Dr. MacLain pouring the metal into a mold for a tank hatch.

After it's creation it was than painted like the American flag and presented to Captain America by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Since it has been the defining factor in Captain America's image and been passed down from Steve Rogers to the captains who would follow him and is now in the possesion of Sam Wilson.
