Both Ei, the Raiden Shogun's actual identity, and the Shogun, a puppet she made to manage Inazuma while she meditated on the Plane of Euthymia, exist as the Raiden Shogun. This puppet obeys a series of preprogrammed commands that are very challenging to change. The Shogun is a person who lacks emotional expression, has no likes or dislikes, and has no need for recreation. She has a harsh, frigid disposition that borders on heartless at times. The Shogun, who is unable to act on her own initiative, views herself as Ei's assistant and executes her creator's exact desire. The Shogun is rendered useless if her regular functions are inhibited. Ei's initial disregard for anything besides "eternity" left the puppet with few protocols, making it susceptible to manipulation from other forces. For instance, she was convinced to start and uphold the Vision Hunt Decree by the Kujou Clan and Fatui.
Ei is noticeably more emotional and gregarious than the Shogun, but having a more stern demeanour than the typical person. Ei, in contrast to the Shogun, has preferences, such as a passion for martial arts and a fondness of sweets. Because of her commitment to eternity, Ei has a scepticism about the concept of change. She shows more interest in new occurrences, such as the appearance of the Traveler and contemporary habits, than she does contempt for them. Ei is motivated by a fear of more loss and a desire to protect Inazuma as a result of having lost many of her loved ones over the millennia. She had previously fortified herself on the Plane of Euthymia in order to shield herself from erosion. In order to protect herself from the deterioration of her real body, she developed the puppet Shogun. When she was on the Plane of Euthymia, Ei was unconcerned with anything that did not advance her quest for eternity and she had a negative impression of human desire because it causes misery and loss. It is therefore inconsistent with eternity. Ei is depicted interacting with Yae Miko and the Traveller, indicating that she was not unaffected by loneliness while on the Plane of Euthymia.
The tall female model is used by the Raiden Shogun. She is fair-skinned, has light blue pupils in her purple eyes, and has long, dark violet hair that lightens at the ends and glows when she uses her elemental skill or burst. A beauty mark can be seen just below her right eye.
