BUT WHAT IS LOLITA FASHION, YOU ASKED?
Well, it is a popular subculture and street fashion community in Japan, especially dominated by young women or older teenage girls with a distinctive style of clothes with strong characteristics of femininity and doll like cuteness. It originated from the western Victorian influence as seen on the gothic, yet porcelain doll-like style, resembling children’s clothing with European styles of Victorian, Baroque and Rococo and fantasy styles, more distinctively, Alice in Wonderland.
The term for this subculture was even made more popular by a controversial novel Lolita by Vlademir Nabakov, in which romanticizes abuse among the sweetness and purity of young girls, and which later on translated to be a positive synonym for the “sweet and adorable” adolescent girl, without a perverse or sexual connotation.
The Lolita Subculture is seen to be special. Like any other community, meetups to other places such as cafes, malls, and events, around Harajuku, as well as the members’ houses are quite essential. They also have a set of rules. For example, people taking photos of them without permission seems to be disrespectful for them.

The gothic Lolita is the more mysterious and dark Lolita fashion style. Mostly inspired by mature-horror themes such as vampire, ghosts, witches, roses, religious imageries, spiders, and more that could give a dark feel. Mostly colored by black, red, royal blue, gold, and a few strong and mysterious color palette.
