Black Friday Sale Tips
Share
Black Friday is here. It’s the day when retailers offer up their best deals of the year — and it’s also a holiday that attracts shoppers from all over. If you’re planning on shopping for Black Friday, you’ll want to do so strategically. You’ll need to plan ahead and think about how much time you have before the big day, as well as what you’re looking for in general. Let’s start with some tips:
PLAN YOUR STRATEGY.
Planning is the key to saving money and avoiding impulse buys. If you plan ahead, you can avoid wasting time and energy running from store to store trying to find the best deals.
Planning can help you save money by allowing you to compare prices before going shopping. You might be able to find an item at a lower price elsewhere or even find an exclusive coupon code that will get your order shipped for free!
COMPARE PRICES, DEALS AND COUPONS.
Before you head out to the sales, make sure you’re familiar with each store’s coupon policy. Some stores require coupons to be printed out and others allow them to be sent directly to your phone. Make sure you know what type of coupon you’ll need before you go!
You’ll also want to take advantage of free shipping offers by using an online shopping service like Amazon, eBay, and the like. And if there’s a store that isn’t offering any deals at all, consider shopping somewhere else instead!
BE EARLY — IT PAYS OFF.
It pays to be early. Many stores will open their doors extra early on Black Friday, as they’ll want to attract as many customers as possible before the day’s end. Also, it is really nice to be early as the sale may make long lines, you can cut yourself the long wait by just being one of the first to show up. Stores are also more likely to run out of items before the day is over, so it’s important that you go when you have time to shop thoroughly.
Additionally, there will be fewer customer service representatives available for you if something goes wrong with an item or if you need help finding a particular item in the store. And remember that because it’s Black Friday, there will be more people than usual in the store—and most likely quite a few frustrated shoppers (it’s not called “Black” Friday for nothing).
SHOP LOCAL.
Buy local.
If you don’t already have a local business to support, consider checking out the businesses in your area. Those who have been around for a while are most likely to give you a discount on items or offer some sort of loyalty program that rewards regular customers with discounts and other benefits. In addition, if something goes wrong with one of the products you’ve purchased from them, they’re more likely to be able to help solve your problem because they know the people who work at their company personally—and will probably want to keep their customers happy! Local stores are known to have a top-notch staff service that will attend to your needs, which is a huge plus given the stress of the shopping season, and could be helpful for after-sales concerns (returns, exchanges, etc.)
DO ONLINE RESEARCH FIRST.
We all know the massive convenience of online shopping. If your shop in mind has an online store, be sure to check that one out as well. In most cases, online stores have their discounts set up on the site, and you can shop there too if you want to skip the hassle of running around physical stores. Although, cons can be that a few times that the site will crash due to overwhelming number of customers, and there will be situations that the items you want from that store may not be available online. But still, shop however you prefer.
CHECK OUT THE RETURN POLICIES ON BIG-TICKET ITEMS.
It’s a good idea to be familiar with the return policies of the stores you shop at, especially if you’re buying big-ticket items. Some stores don’t allow refunds on opened items, while others have strict time limits for returns and exchanges. And some retailers won’t accept returns on certain merchandise—like electronics or jewelry—at all.
If you’re unsure about whether or not an item can be returned, call the store directly and ask before making a purchase.
CONSIDER THE LINE.
One of the most important things to keep in mind when it comes to Black Friday is that you likely will be waiting in line. Remember: don’t waste time getting upset about this fact or get too excited over the deals you might find when you get into the store.
Instead, make sure you have a plan for what to do while waiting in line. If your local store doesn’t have a lot of tables and chairs set up outside, bring along something comfortable like a portable chair or blanket so that when it’s finally your turn inside the store, you can spend as much time as possible shopping! You might even want to think about bringing some snacks and drinks with you—just make sure they’re not messy because this could make things more complicated for everyone else waiting in line!
BE PREPARED FOR DISAPPOINTMENT.
When you are going to the stores, be prepared for disappointment. Don’t go shopping without knowing what you want and don’t let anyone convince you that something else is better. Know your priorities and stick to them as much as possible.
Sometimes, your item could get out of stock, store cn
The excitement of Black Friday can make people forget what they really need or even want, so it’s important to do research on whatever item it is that will occupy their time at the store. Do not get caught up in the hype and rush to get out there just because everyone else around is doing so!
DON’T GO SHOPPING FOR BLACK FRIDAY WITHOUT A PLAN.
Due to stunning deals, expect that there will be long lines and overwhelming situation along the way. Be sure to at least have a plan and expectation for your shopping day, as well as other alternatives. That way, your shopping can go smoothly. Plans are not only limited to what to buy and what budget you have, this can be about your trip to the store, your time, and similar factor.
- Have a plan.
- Don’t get overwhelmed.
- Don’t miss out on deals.
- Avoid traffic jams and long lines.
- Spend within your budget, or less than you do on an average day of shopping (unless it’s Christmas Eve).
- Limit your shopping budget to a certain amount, but still bring extra just in case.
ALTHOUGH PLANS ARE GREAT, IT’S OKAY TO FREESTYLE A BIT
- The best part about Black Friday is being able to walk into a store and get what you need and planned, but it’s also fun to sidetrack a bit, because most cases, Black Friday shopping could get very unexpected. You’ll find a good deal over something out of your list, and you might want to get it immediately (but make sure you bring extra first)
- If you’re not sure what to buy, start with an item on your wish list and look for deals on it. That way, if there are no discounts or sales on that item when you get there, at least you know where it can be found and how much it costs without having wasted time shopping around.
- If possible, try wearing clothes that fit loosely so that they can be stretched over the items in your cart while shopping (think of dressing up as Santa!) This will save space in your bags later on as well! Just make sure they’re clean!
HAVE FUN
Don’t forget to have fun. If something better comes along, switch plans! If you’re too stressed out about shopping, put down your phone and go for a walk.
