THE LONG ROAD TO THE BIG SCREEN

The path of taking Minecraft to the big screens started in 2014 when Mojang Studios went into negotiations with Warner Bros. to turn the game into a movie. Throughout the years, the project experienced various director and writer changes, including Peter Sollett and the Nee Brothers. It wasn’t until 2022 that Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre) was officially announced to direct, with Jason Momoa added to the cast. Production began in January 2024 in New Zealand and ended in April of the same year. The movie was first screened in London on March 30, 2025, and globally on April 4, 2025.

The story follows four casts—Garrett, Henry, Natalie, and Dawn—who are brought from the real world into the Minecraft-inspired Overworld. There, they have to unite to stop the nefarious piglin sorceress Malgosha’s scheme to destroy the world.
