At Lydia’s wedding to Rory, Betelgeuse intervenes, revealing Rory’s greed. A chaotic showdown ensues, ending with Betelgeuse’s defeat as Astrid summons a sandworm to devour Delores and Rory.

Lydia ultimately cancels her show to reconnect with Astrid, but is haunted by nightmares of Betelgeuse, who remains obsessed with her.

A NEW GENERATION OF GHOSTS

While Beetlejuice returns, the sequel will also introduce a new generation of ghosts. Tho original film focused on the Maitlands, a recently deceased couple played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis. BEHIND THE RELEASE OF BETTLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE

The film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice premiered in the 81st Venice International Film Festival on August 28, 2024, in a non-competitive slot. Warner Bros. Pictures released it theatrically on September 6, 2024, with special formats like IMAX, 4DX, and ScreenX. Initially, Warner Bros. considered releasing it directly to streaming on Max due to concerns about the $147 million budget for a sequel to an older 1980s film. However, after negotiations between director Tim Burton and the new Warner Bros. leadership, a deal was made to release the film in the theaters if the budget stayed under $100 million. Burton managed to keep it at $99 million, ensuring a theatrical release. Although there were concerns the film would be delayed due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, the producers confirmed the 2024 released date. The movie premiered overseas on September 4, 2024, two days before it’s U.S release.

As of October 8, 2024, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has amassed $267.12 million in the U.S and Canada $137.5 million internationally, making it global total $404.6 million. The film exceeded box office predictions by earning $111 million in its opening weekend, becoming the second-highest September debut and the second-best opening in Tim Burton’s career (following Alice in Wonderland). It dominated the box office for three weeks, despite subsequent revenue declines. Internationally, the movie performed exceptionally well, with standout earning from the UK ($9.6 million) and Mexico ($6.5 million), contributing to an international debut of $36.2 million.
