Hey there anime fans and otaku besties! It’s time for another fun and chill discussion about our favourite anime in the ModCons Blog Sphere. We have talked about quite a lot of anime series that we like. From Naruto, Kakegurui, My hero Academia, Demon Slayer, and more. We enjoyed finding and reading interesting information as well as we love writing about them.
For today’s post, we’ll have another installment to our ‘Let’s Talk Anime’ blog series. And now we will talk about one of the most-loved modern anime, with a huge audience base and wide global recognition. And if we say that you can see them anywhere, they are everywhere! From video clips, social media posts, edits, memes, tiktoks, and more. It is hard to stay away from this popular series, and if you still have no idea about it, you probably need a lot of catching up to do.
Jujutsu Kaisen, rings a bell? Of course, it should be. It is one of the most popular anime nowadays. Whether an avid fan or just a casual watcher, everyone knows a thing or two about it. It was even awarded “Anime of the Year” at the 2021 5th Crunchyroll Anime Awards, while Ryomen Sukuna won the “Best Antagonist” category award.
As per the Jujutsu Kaisen Fandom Wiki, the plot goes as follows; Yuji Itadori is an expert at track and field. But he has zero interest running around in circles, he’s happy as a clam in the Occult Research Club. Although he’s only in the club for kicks, things get serious when a real spirit shows up at school!
Yuji makes a promise to his dying grandfather; that he will do kind deeds so that he dies surrounded by loved ones, unlike his grandfather. However, Yuji’s life takes a sudden turn as he meets Megumi Fushiguro; a jujutsu sorcerer who tries to retrieve a cursed object. When Yuji’s friends open the cursed object that they found, things go south as the cursed spirits that it spawned start roaming in school. As Fushiguro and Yuji are almost defeated by one of the spirits, Yuji then swallows the cursed object and gains its power. As a result, Yuji becomes cursed by the object and gets dragged into Fushiguro’s thrilling world of jujutsu sorcerers and cursed spirits.
The story follows high school student Yuji Itadori as he joins a secret organization of Jujutsu Sorcerers in order to kill a Curse named Ryomen Sukuna, of whom Yuji becomes the host.
Known for Characters such as Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, Gojo Satoru, Nubara Kugisaki and more, Jujutsu Kaisen is an anime series based on the 2018 manga by Gege Akutami, prosuced by MAPPA and was first announced in November 2019 and officially aired on October 3, 2020 to March 27, 2021 with 24 episodes. Distributed through MBS and TBS, home video through Viz Media, as well as streaming sites such as Crunchyroll (Outside Asia), HBO Max, iQIYI (South and Southeast Asia) and Netflix (Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, India, and Taiwan)
Due to the vast popularity of the Anime and Manga, a Jujutsu Kaisen-inspired games had been announced. One is a free-to-play RPG and the other is a collaboration with PUBG: Battlegrounds. Also followed by its movie Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie premiered on December 24, 2021 in Japan which is an adaption of Jujutsu Kaisen’s spin-off manga Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Jujutsu High by Gege Akutami.
In January 2021, it was revealed that the anime series was the second most-watched anime series on Crunchyroll in 2020, only second to Black Clover, being watched in 71 countries and territories, including North America, South and Central America, Europe, Middle East and North Africa, Africa, Asia and Oceania. Garnering positive reviews from critics such as The Ringer, Otaku USA, and Polygon, Jujutsu Kaisen became the 2nd most searched in the Yahoo! Japan anime category, as well as the 2nd most discussed TV show on Twitter worldwide.
Aside from the anime itself, the show is known for iconic fictional items that we bring back to life such as the cosplay costumes and wigs of these characters. Aside from that, the love over Jujutsu Kaisen is never ending as different merch items inspired by the show is kept being made such as action figures, hoodies, shirts, and even display posters, LED Lights, and more. Merch items are such a must-have for every huge fan but still worth checking out if you have the likings for the show’s aesthetic and even casually interested with the show.
We like the show for its engaging plot, adventures that’ll get you in the edge of your seat. Character designs that were mysterious but fun at the same time. Actually, a great show to recommend someone starting off getting into anime. Aside from it’s easy to ride into the popularity bandwagon and something to talk about with your family and friends, it is also as interesting in both visual and storyline concepts. Action-packed, relatable, full of energy, and has something you can learn from. Have your fun anime watching experience and add Jujutsu Kaisen to your watchlist.
