Good Day! Time for a new Let’s Talk Anime. Today, we are talking about another one of our favourite anime series. This classic anime is widely popular up to this day despite the anime series being aired around 1997 up to the present day. Gaining a wide fanbase, the franchise continuously expands in video games, trading cards, toys, films and more entertainment branches.
In case you still haven’t guessed it, today we will go and explore the world of Pokemon.
If you have heard about the characters Pikachu, Ask Ketchum, Charizard, Bulbasaur, and more, then you are in for a treat! This series, also the home of the quite recent ‘surprised Pikachu’ meme. And to add, the term Pokemon, which is slowly becoming a household name among young people and anime fans, is a shortened, combined version of the phrase “Pocket Monsters” which is because these fictional creatures can be collected and be stored in pokeballs fit on pockets or bags once you capture them.
Pokemon is a classic anime series that was first aired from 1997 up to the present. Started off as an online game franchise, specifically Pokemon Red and Blue, and Due to increasing demand and popularity, it’s furthermore expanded to a wider variety of media; from anime series, films, more games, trading cards, and more.
The series goes around the story of Ash Ketchum on a journey to become a legendary Pokemon Trainer. Pokemon trainers are humans that are finding and collecting Pokemons, take care of them, and do their best to have their creature progress in their strength and powers by getting them into battles, also as a way for the creature to level up and compete with a much higher/powerful battles. As a Pokemon trainer, you should be able to recognize the abilities and even the limitations of your creature, do the best of your ability to match up your opponent’s creature in terms of level, ability, and powers.
Ash met fellow Pokemon Trainer which some turned to his friends along the way. Also faced rival such as Gary Oak and Team Rocket.
The series overall is entertaining to kids and young adults, given the adventure, cute creatures, and power-packed nature of the series. The English slogan for the franchise is “Gotta Catch ‘Em All!”. There are currently 908 Pokémon species. Currently Pokemon has almost 26 games, playable in different platforms, with 24 movies, 24 seasons with 1,189 episodes total, airing in networks such as TXN (TV Tokyo),Cartoon Network, Disney XD, Boomerang, and Netflix.
If we are going to look on its Wikipedia article, it says that it was first shown in Japan in early 1997, and in the United States in late 1998. The anime started what has been called “Pokémania”, which meant that after the anime came out, it became very popular among children, and many parents assumed it was a fad and no one would care about it in a couple years. However, it was never cancelled, and it is still running.
The interesting thing about the Pokémon Anime is that when a new Pokémon game is released that is not a remake, the whole Anime focuses on that with new Pokémon and the world that is in that Pokémon game.
The anime shows the adventures of Ash Ketchum, (with the exception of some special series) a ten-year-old Pokémon trainer who has many adventures, meeting many new people and Pokémon. His most famous Pokémon, and probably the most famous Pokémon, is Pikachu.
A number of Pokémon films have also been made that relate to the anime. The first one was Pokémon: The First Movie (released in 1998 in Japan and 1999 in United States). There are more movies still being made. There have now been seventeen films released.
Aside from the anime itself, the show is known for iconic fictional items that we bring back to life such as the plushies for these fictional creatures. In which is fun to dress up given their adorable and cute designs. Aside from that, the love over Pokemon is never ending as different merch items inspired by the show is kept being made such as hoodies, plush toys, stickers, watches, aprons, and more. Merch items are such a must-have for every huge fan but still worth checking out if you have the likings for the show’s aesthetic and even casually interested with the show.
As per the Original plot, it says that Ash Ketchum is allowed to start his journey in the world of Pokémon and dreams of becoming a Pokémon master. Professor Oak, the local Pokémon researcher, has already given away the three Pokémon (Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle) he entrusts to new Pokémon Trainers when Ash finally reaches Oak’s Lab. The only Pokémon that he has left is a Pikachu, which he gives to Ash. Determined to make it on his journey, Ash does his best to befriend Pikachu, but it refuses to trust him and chooses to stay out of the Poké Ball, even attacking Ash with its electric powers. It is only after Ash protects Pikachu from an angry group of Spearows that Pikachu realizes how much Ash cares. Ash Ketchum has the Thunder Stone, and he wants Pikachu to evolve into Raichu, but Pikachu refuses to evolve.
