Let’s Talk Anime – SK8 the Infinity

Hello Besties! We have been looking back on some classic anime shows for a while, and it was fun reading and learning more about some significant information about our favourite classic anime. But now, let’s get into the newer, modern ones.
Here is an anime called Sk8 the Infinity. Released as a manga and later on aired as an anime series, produced by BONES studio, aired on the Network ANN and released internationally by Animax, Funimation, AnimeLab, and Wakanim.
Sk8 the Infinity anime is based on a manga of an original storyby Ojarumaru. The Sk8 the Infinity manga began serialization in Shogakukan’s Coro Coro Comics Special magazine in December 2019. As the manga popularized, the anime for Sk8 is in progress, with Koichi Sakamoto (Ultraman Zero Side Story: Ultraman Zero vs. Darklops Zero, Power Rangers Samurai) directing the anime at BONES and 3xCube. Sakamoto is also handling the action direction at Japan Action Enterprise.
Aside from Sakamoto, prominent people in Anime such as Taku Kishimoto (Silver Spoon, Haikyu!!, 91 Days) is in charge of the making of the Sk8 the Infinity anime. Mari Kitayama (Love Live! Sunshine!!, IDOLiSH7) is designing the characters while Takafumi Wada (My Hero Academia, Mob Psycho 100, Space Dandy) is serving as chief animation director. As well as Aoi Yamamoto (My Hero Academia) is credited as action animation director at Japan Action Enterprise.
As this was a interesting and widely popular manga series, A lot of people were excited and looked forward to watch this TV anime on January. With great reception and such, it is undeniable one of the must check out sports anime to look forward to.
SK8 THE INFINITY IS ONE OF THE MOST ANTICIPATED ANIME SERIES OF THE WINTER 2021 SEASON, AND FOR GOOD REASON.
If you’re into skateboarding, you’ll love this show. Sk8 the Infinity is one of the most anticipated anime series of the Winter 2021 season, and for good reason. The manga creator, Hajime Tsukimimoto, has an impressive track record that includes hits like the sports drama Free! (which also focuses on men in high school), and he’s teamed up with Bones Inc., a studio known for its iconic animation style that can be seen in My Hero Academia and Mob Psycho 100. In fact, it’s been 12 years since Bones worked on a project from start to finish — so it’s safe to say that everyone’s excited about this new collaboration.
The series takes place during summer vacation at Reki Hills Academy Boarding School, where protagonist Ren first discovers his love for skateboarding after meeting Langa Hidaka. Despite coming from opposite sides of Reki Hills’ social scene, Ren and Langa share a mutual passion for skating together. Together with their friends Adam and Cherry Blossom (who are basically dating), they form Team “Sk8.” Within this group, they play an underground game of downhill skateboarding known as “S,” which is considered by some to be a dangerous activity because of its risk of injury or death.
THIS SHOW IS ABOUT TWO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WHO MEET ONE DAY AT A SKATE PARK.
This show is about Rei, a high school student who skates for fun with his friends. He’s known around his town as a skilled skater, but he’s comparatively more restrained than the hardcore daredevils who populate skate culture. In fact, he’s humble to a fault—and if you can believe it, that’s going to be a huge problem for him.
His friend Mami discovers an underground skate park where she pushes him to compete. There he meets Langa, an American transfer student who is new in town and trying to blend in by skating with the local kids. Unlike Rei, Langa is all attitude and no respect—which makes him an irresistible ride-or-die partner when Rei finds himself drawn into an underground racing tournament called SKA8.
BUT AS MUCH AS THIS SHOW IS ABOUT SKATING, IT’S ALSO ABOUT FRIENDSHIP, LOYALTY, AND TRUST.
But as much as this show is about skating, it’s also about friendship, loyalty, and trust. It’s a coming of age story that showcases the ways in which skating can help people make friends and find people who share their interests.
It’s not just the friendship between Reki and Langa that’s important here. The two of them become close because they bond over their shared interest in skating—and Langa finds himself through his new hobby. He starts to learn how to express himself and really come out of his shell. He doesn’t have any friends at school, but he does through the skate park—which has a similar feel to what you might find in an online chatroom or forum for a favorite TV show or game. The community aspect is important here, and it’s something that I think all skaters can relate to.
WATCH SK8 THE INFINITY IF YOU LOVE FUN ANIMES WITH EXCITING PLOTS!
It is no secret that Sk8 the Infinity has been praised by fans of sports anime. The pacing is fast and exciting, and the characters are likable. You cannot help but root for Langa during his matches, as he progresses from a timid boy to a confident skater that impresses his competitors.
The show’s sound design is also top notch, with emotions being conveyed even during scenes where there is no dialogue.
After its premiere in January, Sk8 the Infinity was ranked 13th in the overall anime category on My Anime List for 24 days straight.
