Osamu Dazai, also known as Dazai Osamu, is a current employee of the Armed Detective Agency and a former executive of the Port Mafia, an illegal organisation. He possesses the talent No Longer Human.

Young Dazai has short, dark brown hair that is lightly curly and narrow, dark brown eyes. While part of his bangs are gathered in the middle of his forehead, others frame his face. He has a thin build and is pretty tall.

Dazai is dressed with a long trench coat in sand, the belt of which is left undone. A light blue dress shirt with black and white striped detailing is worn underneath it. His bolo tie is fastened to his outfit by a brown ribbon and a turquoise pendant. His face, hands, and feet are the only parts of his body that are exposed. He also wears beige slacks and dark brown shoes.

Dazai is a shady character; we never know his genuine motivations unless he says so. The person who most accurately captured Dazai's characteristics, as admitted by the man himself, was his buddy Sakunosuke Oda. Oda understood that Dazai would remain in the shadows forever because almost nothing could match his mental prowess. Oda, who believes Dazai is aware of this in himself, realised that no place in the world could satisfy Dazai's loneliness, regardless of whether he is on the side of killing or protecting people.
